Two in Ones: Photochromic Lenses

While the name is a lot to digest, Photochromic lenses are, quite simply, lenses that change colors. Photochromic lenses darken when exposed to ultraviolet rays from sunlight. We’ve gone on and on about the importance of always owning a pair of prescription sunglasses, and while we will forever love and encourage them, these lenses are another option. All our lenses at Lookmatic are available with Photochromic Lenses for an additional $40. Just choose the “Photochromic” option on our easy-to-use online order form. See image for details:

Sadly, Photochromic Lenses sometimes get a bad wrap and may be associated with your geeky uncle, grandfather or dorky boss. But, they’re not that bad…right? VOTE!

Would you wear photochromic lenses?

Are photochromic lenses totally clear when not in direct sunlight?

    • Razr_bo

      Yes, they are!

  • Grrlyfu

What about indoors? Will they darken if the lights indoors are bright?

    • bobbabe

They won’t unless the lamps emit a high amount of UV, such as under daylight film lamps (HMI’s).

I a pair of photochromic glasses.  They save the time of switching from sunglasses to optical glasses.  They change quickly when going  into the sun but are a wee bit slower to change when walking indoors.  You may find yourself looking over the tops of them until they change completely to clear.  They also will usually remain nearly clear if you are driving your car.

If they clear when you’re driving in the car…what use are they?

I live in the desert. If you don’t have actual sunglasses to drive in, sometimes–depending on the direction you’re driving and the time of day–it could be flat out dangerous to not have actual functional sunglasses

I may try these again. STILL JUST BROWN AND GREEN??
